What we do and who we are

We are a young people led organisation addressing the
lack of creative opportunities and pathways for people
between 13-21 in Southwest Cornwall.

Why we do it

From the sunny, laid-back summers to the cosy, dark winters,
growing up in and around Penzance means experiencing a rich mix of people, stories, and perspectives. It’s a place full of possibility and creative energy—but it can also bring feelings of isolation and hardship.
At Become You CIC, we believe every young person deserves access to the opportunities that exist within the creative arts. Our aim is to help build a new culture of unity and hope—one where our identity isn’t just rooted in the struggles we’ve faced, but in the positive changes we’ve made together.

We want to celebrate the spirit of
creativity and collaboration and empower young people to lead that change.

How we do it

We are a youth-led Community Interest Company based in Penzance, Cornwall, founded in September 2022. Our mission is to create meaningful opportunities for young people by exploring what it means to be young and Cornish today—through creativity, connection, and culture.
Our work centres around people aged 13–21, especially those who may feel marginalised, in need of support, or are simply curious about getting involved in the creative industries—whether for personal growth, recreation, or future careers.
We run a wide range of creative projects and workshops, including mentoring, youth counselling, personal skills development, and cultural and heritage exploration. Everything we do is designed to support and inspire young people to find their voice, express their identity, and build confidence in who they are and where they’re going.
In the past, our creative projects have engaged with photography for mindfulness, performance for wellbeing, music production, cyanotypes, creative writing and much more.
Our workshops are accessible to all, with no experience or skills required – you just need an open mind and want to try something
new!

Services We Offer

At Become You CIC, we believe in the power of connection and creativity. Through genuine engagement within person-centred workshops, we support young people in discovering and developing their own creative identity.

Creative Workshops

Our creative workshops are rooted in practices like PACE and Mantle of the Expert, ensuring that every young person feels valued, heard, and inspired. By placing their needs and voices at the heart of what we do, their own self autonomy drives investigation by experiential learning and social exposure. We create meaningful experiences that nurture growth and unlock their potential in developing professional pathways or finding stimulating hobbies.

Creative Mapping and Surveying

The experiences and voices of our young people is the most important thing when envisioning a future that they can have a say in. As such, we utilise creative mapping, surveying, and youth consultation to record how space, place, and identity are defined, and interacted with, by our youth. This gathering is done in a non-intrusive, informal manner that is integrated into activities and conversations held during games, interviews, and focus group style dialoguing.

Work Experience

This practice led research style opens opportunities for genuine participant contribution. As such, we also offer work experience to anybody over 18 who wants to work with young people, is interested in developing others’ creative potential, or jumpstarting their creative career by planning and co-facilitating creative workshops. Within this, pathways for safeguarding training, first aid training, and sharpening their mentoring and facilitation skills.

Research and Development

Grassroots social change can not be truthfully co-created without the input of the community it caters for. At Become You CIC, we offer research and development: partnering with you to deliver workshops and outreach that uncovers the needs and opinions of the people you want to reach, as well as analysing the data to offer the next steps in achieving your project's mission.
